The Diamondbacks bullpen has taken shape as RHP JJ Hoover has made the Diamondbacks initial bullpen. Hoover had issues with command and diminshed velocity that led to his exit from the Reds. Hoover bounced back with a strong Spring, allowing 0 ER in 9 IP with a 1.00 WHIP and 11 strikeouts.
LHP TJ McFarland was reassigned to minor league camp. The issues that caused his exit from the Orioles remained as McFarland surrendered a good chunk of hits. At the same time, he was also good at limiting walks and inducing ground balls, so he could be bullpen insurance in the future.
We wait now to see the roster fates of Andrew Chafin and Silvino Bracho. Both pitched tonight, with Chafin inducing a ground out from Michael Brantley with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out. Bracho gave up 2 hits in 1⁄3 of an inning and both runners scoring. Odds are Chafin will get the final bullpen spot because he's left handed.
