This is the kind of day when it would be VERY tempting to call in sick and spend the entire day over at Salt River Fields. For there are two spring training games there today, both involving the Diamondbacks: we begin with the Padres this afternoon, and then move on to the Cubs tonight. So, I guess, never mind: for my previous experiences with local Cubs fans at Chase Field, would suggest that SRF tonight might more closely resemble a theme-park version of Mad Max: Fury Road. It’s already sold out, which is kinda rare for a game in the first couple of days of March. And, anyway, I have to work. So, pffffft.
The opener, however, gives us a second look at Archie Bradley, who’ll be looking to improve significantly on a first outing which saw him tattooed for five earned runs while recording only four outs. He allowed five hits and two walks, with just the one strikeout, against the Rockies in our opening game of Cactus League action on Saturday. Given Patrick Corbin’s solid first appearance, Bradley has fallen behind in the (very) early going for the battle to be the D-backs’ fifth starter. But plenty of time left to turn things around.
No TV or radio for this one. Enjoy laggy Gameday...
