We’re onto the outfield with this fan vote of the Diamondbacks 20th anniversary team. This could turn into another runaway race with a franchise icon going against two high energy players.
Luis Gonzalez: Gonzo is one of 3 MLB players to have his number retired by the organization (Randy Johnson’s #51 and Jackie Robinson’s #42). The Diamondbacks picked him up in a trade after 1998 when Detroit didn’t want him. Gonzo went on to set every offensive record in Dbacks history as well as the game-winning hit of the 2001 World Series.
David Peralta: Peralta was an independent league signing in 2013 that blossomed into a starting outfielder for the Diamondbacks the last 4 seasons. His fearless baserunning led to the Freight Train nickname. Peralta is the high-energy player on the team and table setter for Paul Goldschmidt. His skill set is collecting hit and after hit due to his impressive bat speed.
Eric Byrnes: Byrnes was a free agent pickup in 2006 and he immediately locked down the starting CF job in 2006. After Chris Young was called up, Byrnes moved to LF where he put together an impressive 2007 campaign with 21 HR, 50 SB, and solid defense. Unfortunately starting in 2008, Byrnes’ high intensity of play resulted in his body breaking down after the team gave him a 3-year contract extension. Like Peralta, Byrnes was the energy guy in the clubhouse.
