The second half of the battery is the catcher. The Diamondbacks have had 3 long time starting catchers in their history, which is why I’m listing 3 candidates for this specific position.
Damian Miller: Miller was the primary catcher for the Diamondbacks back when Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling were leading the Diamondbacks to a World Series. The Dbacks picked him up in the expansion draft in 1997 and he quickly became the primary starting catcher by 2000. Miller wasn’t great with the bat, but his best seasons at the plate came in his Diamondback days. Miller caught 6 of the 7 games in the World Series as well in addition to every critical postsesaon game from 1999-2002.
Miguel Montero: Miggy was signed by the Diamondbacks as an international free agent in 2001 before working his way into the majors in 2006. Montero was the backup to another candidate in this poll before assuming the starting job in 2009. Montero held that job until 2014, twice making the All-Star team and providing an impact bat from the left side of the plate during his prime. Montero’s impact on the team is still felt on the team in the form of Zack Godley, who came to the Diamondbacks in 2015 when the team sent Montero to the Cubs, who’s turned into a very solid pitcher for the Dbacks.
Chris Snyder: The Diamondbacks drafted Snyder in the 2nd round of the 2001 draft. He quickly rose up the ranks and debuted in 2004. Snyder initially held the job in 2005, but was the backup in 2006 before reclaiming the starting job in 2008. Coincidentally it was an injury that led to Montero stealing his job behind the plate in 2009. Snyder had solid pop and on base ability from the right side of the plate when he batted.
