Playoff Gameday Thread, #5: Bounceback in Washington?

Before we get to the main event in Los Angeles, here’s the undercard...

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington Nationals Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

2:38pm Chicago Cubs @ Washington Nationals

Jon Lester (13-8, 4.33) vs. Gio Gonzalez (15-9, 2.96). The Cubs are likely more than happy, after their solid performance yesterday. They beat Stephen Strasburg, with Kyle Hendricks and two relievers combining on a two-hit shutout of the Nationals, even though Strasburg took a no-hitter into the sixth. Chicago had three hits with runners in scoring position, the Nationals none, in a rare post-season game this year: one that was well-pitched. The win puts the Cubs in the driving seat, having already negated home-field, and if they can win this afternoon, they’ll go back home with two chances to knock out the Nationals in the first round again.

Doing so won’t be easy: Gonzalez beat Chicago when he faced them on June 26th, allowing two hits and one run over six innings. But Lester pitched well enough in his two outings against Washington as well, though got a no-decision both times: he gave up four runs in 12.2 innings.
