Diamondbacks announce Wild Card Roster

After a long and arduous season, the playoffs are right around the corner. Does this roster have what it takes to win the only game that matters?

With the one-game playoff against the Colorado Rockies starting in only a couple hours now (!!!), the Arizona Diamondbacks have announced their roster for tonight’s game. The main stars are included, with some surprises sprinkled in. Here is the list.

10 pitchers fill the ranks, with tonight’s starter Zack Greinke leading the pack. Notably left off is Taijuan Walker, who is left off the roster for extra position players and T.J McFarland, with his value as a left-handed reliever lost with Patrick Corbin shifting to a relief role tonight. Jimmie Sherfy pitched a simulated game earlier in the week against live hitters, and showed enough to earn a spot on the roster.

15 position players round out the rest of the roster as Jeff Mathis makes his glorious return to lead the 3-headed catcher position. Not many surprises barring the inclusion of Kristopher Negrón, presumably for his ability to play multiple positions on the diamond. Rey Fuentes also earns a spot as the 5th outfielder over someone like Jeremy Hazelbaker, who must wonder what more he needs to do to be on a MLB roster.

So there you have it. Now that the playoff roster is set, what does the starting lineup look like? Does Jeff Mathis start or do the D-backs go offense with Iannetta?
