Jeff Bagwell was the top vote-getter, scoring 381 votes, being named on 86.2% of the ballots. Tim Raines was just behind, making it in his final chance by getting one vote fewer than Bagwell (86.0%). At the other end, Ivan Rodriguez completed the trifecta in his first year of eligibility, on 336 votes (76%), which was four more than was needed to qualify for election. Just missing out was Trevor Hoffmann, who fell five short, receiving 74% of ballots. There was not exactly the expected big boost for Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds in the wake of Bud Selig’s election by the Veterans’ Committee. While both did improve, the boost was less than 10%, and they still sit in the low fifties.

Among the Diamondbacks on the roster, Curt Schilling took a step back, declining from 52.3% to 45.0%, and Melvin Mora failed to trouble the scorers, and will not be returning to the ballot in 2018.

Bagwell, Raines and Rodriguez will be honored as part of the Hall’s Induction Weekend, which takes place from July 28-31, along with executives Selig and John Schuerholz, amd also the late Bill King, the Ford C. Frick Award winner for broadcasting, and Claire Smith, the J.G. Taylor Spink Award winner for writing.
