Arizona Diamondbacks Minor-league Report, 8/30: Zeroes galore

Most of the D-backs farm teams in action today failed to trouble the official scorer by crossing home-plate.

Triple-A Reno 0 @ Sacramento 4. The Aces’ hopes of making the post-season took a big blow, as they lost and the Rainiers won, extending their lead to 3.5 games with now only seven left for Reno. They were held to six hits, all singles: SS Jack Reinheimer got two hits and a walk, but was caught stealing and 2B Ildemaro Vargas singled and walked. Edgar Garcia was charged with four runs over six innings, on five hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts.

Double-A Mobile 0, Montgomery 3. The BayBears were similarly blanked on a six-hitter, also failing to record an extra-base hit in their contest. CF Gabriel Guerrero got two knocks for Mobile,. who didn’t get a walk. Terry Doyle took his first loss for the team, scattering eight hits and two walks over 6.2 innings, with two walks and six strikeouts. He also threw two wild pitches and hit a batter.

High-A Visalia 4 @ Stockton 2. Visalia jumped out to a four-run lead by the middle of the second, mostly courtesy of C Michael Perez’s first homer of the year, a three-run shot. They then held on from there. Justin Donatella tossed five innings of one-run ball, on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Nick Baker and Gabriel Moya were then perfect in the eighth and ninth innings. LF Victor Reyes drove in the Rawhide’s other run, and also stole a base.

A ball Kane County - off-day.

A-short Hillsboro 0 @ Spokane 8. Another shut-out, another six-hitter, though the Hops did at least get an extra-base hit. 2B Manny Jefferson doubled, and also singled, though was also caught stealing. SS Mark Karaviotis got two hits and a walk. Tyler Mark was charged with four hits in five innings, allowing six hits and a walk, fanning seven.

Rookie Missoula 11 @ Helena 9. The Osprey out-slugged the Brewers, though it was closer than you'd expect after Missoula has an 8-3 lead in the fourth. Gabriel Macias got two hits and stole three bases; LF Pedro Marquez homered and singled, driving in three; and SS Yan Sanchez also had three RBI on two hits. Kai-Wei Lin got the W, despite giving up five earned runs in five innings. He scattered eight hits but walked none and struck out six. The Osprey bullpen fanned seven over four shutout frames.
