Arizona Diamondbacks Minor-League Round-up, 8/29: Koch spays the River Cats

Matt Koch was excellent for the Aces, as they kept up the pressure on the Rainiers.

Triple-A Reno 6 @ Sacramento 1. This result, and Tacoma’s loss, leaves Reno 2.5 back with eight games to play. Matt Koch tossed six scoreless innings of six-hit ball, walking one and striking out seven. The bottom of the order got it done, #7 and 8, 3B Carlos Rivero and SS Jack Reinheimer combining for five hits and all six RBI, Rivero getting his 17th home-run. LF Zach Borenstein, at #6, also picked up two hits, while RF Mitch Haniger reached base three times on a hit and two walks.

Double-A Mobile 0/3, Montgomery 7/8. An ugly night for the BayBears, outscored 15-3 and swept in the 7-inn double-header. The opener saw Cole Johnson toss a complete game, but scattered 12 hits over seven, fanning six - he allowed three earned runs. Mobile managed only two hits and one walk. The night-cap ended tied at three, but Matt Stites and Luis Ramirez allowed five runs in the eighth. 2B Jamie Westbrook had two solo homers, and 1B Kevin Cron hit #25 for the year.

High-A Kane County 2, Beloit 1. Jose Almonte tossed five scoreless innings of four-hit ball, walking one and fanning seven, but got a no-decision. This wasn't decided until two outs in the bottom of the ninth, when 2B Raymel Flores singled home LF Stephen Dezzi for a walk-off tally. Keegan Long gor the W, for three scoreless relief innings. Dezzi and 1B Ramon Hernandez each singled and walked, while RF Stryker Trahan hit his second home-run.

A-ball Visalia - off day.

A-short Hillsboro 1 @ Spokane 12. An ugly eight-run fifth blasted the Hops out of the water, Dalllas Newton taking most of the damage. Bo Takahashi got the L, however, going four innings on seven hits and two walks with five K's. Three of the four runs he gave up were earned. Hillsboro managed six hits. Three were by CF Ben DeLuzo, and SS Adam Walton reached base four times on two hits and two walks, scoring Hillsboro’s only run.

Rookie Missoula 7 @ Helena 8. The Osprey had a four-run lead, but blew that; they came back in the ninth, scoring twice, but left the bases loaded there. 2B Paxton De La Garza got two hits and walk, driving in a pair. C Ryan January did the same, including his 9th home-run. DH Kyle Smith had his fifth homer, and 3B Kai Simmons picked up two hits. Trevor Simms took the lossi, lasting 4.2 innings, and scattering nine hits and two walks. He allowed six runs and fanned four.
