It's official, AJ Pollock is back.

The Diamondbacks announced after the game they optioned OF Mitch Haniger to AAA Reno. With AJ Pollock's expected return tomorrow, the Diamondbacks have already made their 25-man roster move. Now the question becomes who gets bumped off the 40-man roster when Pollock is activated since he's coming off the 60-Day DL. The Diamondbacks do have a couple options to consider transferring to the 60-Day DL in Nick Ahmed and David Peralta, who are both out for the rest of the season with hip and wrist surgery.

Haniger had a solid first five games to start his career, but his bat has slowed of late and is batting .237/.302/.342 on the season after going 0 for 4 in the Dbacks most recent loss. His stay in Reno will likely be all the way through the end of the Minor League season as the Aces are in a pennant chase right now.

The Diamondbacks will be welcoming back Pollock, a 2015 All-Star that has missed the entire season up to this point with a re-injury of an elbow injury suffered in 2010. In his rehab assignment with the AZ League Dbacks, the Class A Advanced Visalia Rawhide, and AAA Reno Aces, Pollock slashed .425/.511/.775 with 5 doubles, 3 homers, and a 2/7 strikeout to walk ratio. The team is hoping that Pollock can use the last six weeks of the season to shake off some of the rust from not playing in meaningful action in almost a full calendar year and use that to prepare for the 2017 season.

At this point, whatever contribution Pollock brings is icing on the cake. I don't expect him to be 100% back at the plate, but his glove in center field will be greatly appreciated. Pollock will play 2 of the 3 games against the Reds this weekend. Stay tuned for updates for when the Diamondbacks make a corresponding 40-man roster move.

UPDATE: The Diamondbacks transferred OF David Peralta from the 15-Day to the 60-Day DL as the corresponding 40-man move.

Pollock will bat 2nd in his season debut against the Reds tonight.
