In what is not an entirely surprising development, Maricopa County has voted unanimously to move forward with the sale of Chase Field for $60 million. Details are still to be released, but the next hurdle for the county is that the Diamondbacks hold veto power over the deal.
Given the Diamondbacks’ displeasure with their current deal, and the fact that they once offered to buy the stadium from the district before, it seems very likely that the veto will be used to, at the very least, allow the team to leverage themselves a better deal moving forward through the end of the 2027 season, when the current contract is up.
