Diamondbacks 9, Mets 0

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Mets Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Maybe we need more morning games. For the Diamondbacks crushed the Mets, behind seven shutout innings from Braden Shipley and seven total bases for Tuffy Gosewisch, to complete the road sweep. Arizona did all their damage in two innings: a three-run fourth including a Tuffy triple, and a six-run sixth where Gosewisch homered and Chris Owings had a three-run triple. Owings ended with three hits, Michael Bourn and Paul Goldschmidt got a pair each. Goldie also stole two bases, and was joined in the SB department by Socrates Brito and Shipley.

Speaking of Braden, he held the Mets to three hits over his seven innings, walking one and striking out seven. The only real bump was the fifth where he put two on with one out, before getting back-to-back K’s to end the New York threat. New reliever Zack Godley worked a scoreless eighth, before Chip Hale, clearly feeling merciful and charitable, inserted Dominic Leone. But even that couldn’t help the Mets, as a game-ending double-play completed the shutout for Arizona, their sixth of the season.

Soco will (hopefully) be along with his full recap on his lunch-hour, or when he gets home. Or something.
