Diamondbacks 6, Giants 5

New, comment

The six-game losing streaks, both at Chase and overall, for the Diamondbacks both ended. Largely responsible was Welington Castillo's three-run homer in the eighth inning

It didn't look good for the Diamondbacks to start with, as the Giants scored three times in the top of the second, taking full advantage after a Jean Segura error on a throw home. Arizona got on the board in the third, as Michael Bourn drove in Patrick Corbin, but San Francisco extended their lead with back-to-back home-runs off Corbin in the fourth, to take a 5-1 lead. RBI knocks from Welington Castillo and Chris Herrmann cut the lead in half after the home part of that same inning, but Corbin left one out into the sixth inning, having allowed five runs on five hits and two walks, with five strikeouts.

Enrique Burgos got a double-play to end the sixth, and pitched a clean seventh, then Jake Barrett worked a scoreless eighth. Michael Bourn doubled to lead off the eighth, and one out later, the Bruce Bochy Match Game began. It didn't work out well for the Giants. Jake Lamb walked against a left-handed reliever, and Castillo cranked his tenth homer of the season into the bleachers off a right-handed reliever. Brad Ziegler warmed up in a hurry and came in for the ninth, to record his seventeenth save, despite putting the lead-off man aboard. thunderpumpkin87 will be along later with the full recap. He now has 79 recaps left to write this season. :)
