The Diamondbacks have announced that Greinke will not make his next scheduled start against the San Diego Padres. Zack Godley will make the start in his place. Chip Hale also stated that Godley would do so on Tuesday, which brings up some peculiar timing. Tuesday would mark 10 days in the minors for Godley which means the team doesn't plan on putting Greinke on the DL. Personally, I would rather the team just give him the rest of the first half off and have him pitch the first game of the 2nd half. The last thing the Diamondbacks need is for Greinke to be seriously hurt in a meaningless game that won't make a difference in the standings and that negatively impacting next year's run.
Godley is a pitcher the Diamondbacks should take an extended look at to evaluate if he's better off as a starter or reliever in the long term. For the San Diego series, that means the rotation will now be Bradley, Godley, and Miller.
