For their second-round pick, the Diamondbacks went north of the border, with a young catcher, Andrew Yerzy, out of Toronto Ontario. It's not clear if he'll be able to stick at that position and if not, he will probably end up moving to first-base. According to Baseball America, "While he’s improved behind the plate, he has fringy arm strength and some stiffness in his strong, 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame. It may be tough to buy him out of his Notre Dame commitment." Still, strong left-handed hitting catchers don't grow on trees, and I imagine he'll be given every opportunity. He was only born in July 1998, so it's likely going to be a long time (five years, probably more) before he makes any impact at the major-league level.

We'll be back with more details on our first two picks later tonight. The draft will resume tomorrow, at 10am Arizona time, as rounds 3-10 take place.
