Outfielder Anfernee Grier, from Auburn University. Harold Reynolds liked the pick, and a National League scout said. "I think he could be taken as early as No. 23 but I don’t expect him to last past the end of the sandwich round at 40." Greer had previously been selected out of high school in the 2013 draft, but his stock has clearly risen since he failed to sign there, after being chosen in the 39th round. As a juinior, Grier had a .366 batting average and led his team wih 12 home runs, driving in 41 runs. He led the SEC with 56 runs scored and was also ranked fourth in the league in batting average. He was named to Baseball America's All-America team earlier this week.
The Diamondbacks will have another pick this evening, getting the 52nd pick as part of the second round. We'll be back with news of who they choose there, in about 20 minutes or so!
