Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 6/6: Tuffy's Doing Fine

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

If not for the sudden emergence of Chris "Babe" Herrmann Tuffy Gosewisch would probably be handling backup catcher duties for the Dbacks. But without other headlining action tonight it's nice to see Tuffy is holding his own for Reno and actually hitting a little as well. He's batting .336 with 5 homers and an .892 OPS. True, it's the PCL, but it's somewhat comforting to know Tuffy's on standby should the need arise. Now I know with the way the season is going that's not much for any fan to hang their hat on, but silver linings are getting harder to find these days so you'll have to settle for this one for now.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Peter O'Brien, Reno 3 for 5, 2 R, 1 HR (17), 1 RBI
2 Stars: Domingo Leyba, Visalia 2 for 5, 1 R, 1 HR (4), 1 RBI
1 Star: Luis Ramirez, Visalia 3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 K, 0 ER, W (7-1)
0 Stars: Kyle Drabek, Reno 5 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 6 ER, L (3-4)

AAA: Reno 5 Salt Lake 6. Kyle Drabek got roughed up for 4 runs in the first inning and eventually let in 2 more over 5 innings for a sub-par outing. The offense did well to overcome most of that as Kyle Jensen hit a 3-run homer and Peter O'Brien blasted another one for his 17th of the year. But there were no more runs to be had the rest of the way as they lost a close one. Andrew Chafin and Matt Stites did their part with 2 shutout innings each but a final rally was not to be. O'Brien had 3 hits on the night and is sporting a 1.030 OPS. Socrates Brito and Tuffy Gosewisch each added 2 hits.

AA: Mobile 0 @ Birmingham 5. Not much of interest in this one as the offense managed just 2 hits though Taylor Clarke did pitch into the 7th before being part of a 3-run inning that kind of ruined his line. He have up 6 hits and 2 walks in 6 2/3 innings with 3 strikeouts.

A+: Visalia 5 @ Stockton 4. Emilio Vargas dug the team a 4-1 hole by allowing a pair of runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. The offense tied it in the top of the 4th on a Rudy Flores solo homer and a 2-run RBI single from Victor Reyes. That score would hold all the way to the 11th until an error, a wild pitch, a ground out and bloop single by Oscar Hernandez plated the go-ahead run. The bullpen was terrific led by Luis Ramirez who posted 3 shutout innings with 4 strikeouts. BudJeter pitched the bottom of the 11th with 2 strikeouts for his 6th save. Domingo Leyba had a double and his 4th home run.
