Robbie Ray needed A+ stuff today to defeat the always dangerous Blue Rays on the road. Safe to say he disappointed. He surrendered 4 runs in his 5 1/3 IP, with most of the damage coming in the 1st after a Josh Donaldson double, Edwin Encarnacion walk and Russell Martin home run put the D-backs behind early.
The D-backs would chip away, starting in the 3rd inning thanks to a defensive blunder. After two quick outs by Ahmed and Bourn, Jean Segura walked and Phil Gosselin lined a clean single to right which saw Darrell Ceciliani misplay horribly. The D-backs capitalized with Segura scoring from first and Gosselin reaching 3rd. Back to back walks followed but Welington Castillo struck out, leaving the bases loaded.
The 4th again saw the D-backs threaten. Yasmany Tomas doubled with 1 out, and Michael Bourn scored him on a grounder up the middle. Jean Segura reached base again following the RBI single, but Gosselin grounded out to end the threat and keep the D-backs deficit at 3-2.
Robbie Ray showed the stuff he needed to have from the get-go, with 4 straight scoreless innings to keep things close until the 6th, when Encarnacion hammered a 94 mph fastball from Ray deep into left center field to double the lead to 4-2 in favor of Toronto. A MIchael Saunders strikeout was the last we would see from Ray as he would exit for Zack Godley who followed suit and gave up a homer Troy Tulowitzki giving us our final score of 5-2.
The D-backs and Blue Jays were quiet after that, with the D-backs grabbing two hits and the Blue Jays with a single walk to their credit against the bullpens.

Stupid east coast times screwing everything up. I don't blame you for missing this one. That said, kudos to the ladies and gents who stuck around for this one. david.minter had the most recs today so he's Comment of the Thread.
The 5-game win streak might be over, but the road trip continues in Colorado for a big 4-game series. First pitch is at 5:40 PM. Be there or be square.
