The Diamondbacks start the 2nd day of the draft with a college pitcher in Jon Duplantier. Duplantier is 6’4" 225, so he’s already filled out his frame on the mound. His fastball sits low 90s with good arm-side run and tops out at 96 MPH. He missed the 2015 college season due to a shoulder injury that fortunately didn’t require surgery. His stuff is easily good enough to play in an MLB rotation, but the biggest concerns are health and command in the long term.
For the 2016 season, Duplantier has a 3.24 ERA in 111 innings with a 147/48 strikeout to walk ratio. If he can stay healthy and improve his fastball command, the Diamondbacks may have a steal in the 3rd round.
