Taylor Clarke made his debut for Mobile following his promotion from Visalia and didn't pitch badly though he did take the loss. He got through 5 innings with just a run allowed in the 2nd but served up a 2-run homer with 2 outs in the 6th and that led to his exit. Clarke has been promoted twice now this season making 6 starts for Kane County with a 2.83 ERA, and 4 starts for Visalia with a 2.74 ERA. It's good to see some of our young pitchers developing to fill out the top minor league rotations and provide some hope for the future.
3 Stars: Peter O'Brien, Reno 3 for 5, 1 R, 3 DBL, 3 RBI
2 Stars: Gabriel Guerrero, Mobile 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 DBL, 1 HR (6), 1 RBI
1 Star: Alex Young, Kane County 5 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 ER
0 Stars: Austin Wright, Mobile 1 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 2 K, 3 ER
AAA: Reno 10 Las Vegas 6. The offense took charge in this one rallying from a 5-2 deficit with 8 runs over the final 3 frames. Peter O'Brien smacked 3 doubles and drove in 3 runs, Kyle Jensen drove in 3 with a double and a home run, and Mike Freeman doubled and tripled and scored 4 runs. They needed it all too as Zack Godley was sub-par allowing 5 runs over 5 innings. But the bullpen was great with 4 shutout innings as the win went to Andrew Chafin.
AA: Mobile 5 Pensacola 6.Taylor Clarke's AA debut was pretty good until the 2-run homer in the 6th turned a 2-1 lead into a 3-2 hole. Austin Wright made things worse allowing 3 runs in the 8th which was unfortunate when the offense scored 3 in the bottom of the 9th that was wasted. Gabriel Guerrero doubled and hit a solo home run to pace the offense.
A+: Visalia - Off day
A: Kane County 3 Burlington 4. The Cougars were holding onto a slim 3-1 lead until Keegan Long and Gabe Speier surrendered 3 runs in the 8th via an error, a single and a 3-run bomb. Alex Young was solid once again allowing one run over 5 innings on 6 hits. Young is sporting a sparkling 1.42 ERA so I'm a little curious why he isn't being advanced similarly to Taylor Clarke. Jason Morozowski led the offense with 3 hits and 2 RBI.
