Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 5/4: A Charles Brewer Sighting

Yes, it's that Charles Brewer. He's back in the Dbacks organization after missing most of last season to injury and he threw 4 shutout innings in a Mobile victory. Brewer had short stints with the Indians and Mariners over the last 12 months and was signed by the Dbacks last week. Good to see him back and healthy. He's never quite had enough to make it at the highest level but was always a high-minors work horse and did get his cup of coffee in the bigs in 2013.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Taylor Clarke, Kane County 5.1 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 0 ER, W (3-2)
2 Stars: Charles Brewer, Mobile 4 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 5 K, 0 ER
1 Star: Jason Morozowski, Kane County 1 for 1, 3 BB, 1 R, 1 HR (3), 1 RBI
0 Stars: Wei-Chieh Huang, Visalia 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 4 ER

AAA: Reno 0 @ Fresno 2. Matt Buschmann threw a nice game for Reno but it was wasted when the offense got shut out on 4 hits by Fresno's Brady Rodgers. Buschmann went 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. Not a bad guy to have around in a pinch when the Dbacks bullpen needs a fresh arm. Hope he gets a few more chances. Jason Bourgeois led the meager offense with a couple of singles.

AA: Mobile 1 Chattanooga 0. Ildemarro Vargas led off the 1st inning with a double and scored on a Chad Overacker ground out. And that my friends was the ballgame. Charles Brewer pitched in his first game since last season after signing back with the Dbacks last week and he was terrific. He threw 4 shutout innings on 2 hits while striking out 5. The fresh bullpen followed with 5 shutout innings, a couple of the nervous variety, but five relievers each did their job. Seth Simmons got the win and Matt Stites the save, his 2nd.

A+: Visalia 8 @ High Desert 4. The Rawhide won yet another, overcoming another shaky start by Wei-Chieh Huang with some early offense. The team got out to a 7-0 lead over the first three innings giving Huang a great chance for his first win. But he couldn't get out of the 4th inning before allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. Huang has struggled so far in his first three starts for Visalia and looks to be in a tad over his head in the tough California League. He might need some more seasoning in Kane County if he doesn't turn things around soon. The bullpen was terrific with Nick Baker, Austin Wright and Jimmie Sherfy combining for 5+ shutout innings of relief. A balanced 13-hit attack was led by Dawel Lugo with 2 hits including his 4th home run.

A: Kane County 4 Lake County 0. The Cougars got a badly-needed win against Eastern Division leader Lake County as Taylor Clarke held the opponents at bay for 5+ shutout innings on just one hit and 2 walks while striking out 4. It was a nice rebound for Clarke coming off a poor start last week. Three relievers combined to finish the game with a hit or a run. Jason Morozowski hit his 3rd home run and walked three times while Trevor Mitsui drove in a pair on 2 hits, one a double. Zach Nehrir added 2 doubles.
