Several Dbacks pitching prospects showed off their stuff again last night with dominating outings from Braden Shipley, Cody Reed, Luke Irvine and Edgar Garcia, though Garcia faced some bad luck and bad defense. Shipley keeps looking more and more ready every time out as he's starting to dominate AAA hitters, something not easy to do in the PCL. Cody Reed bounced back from his lone poor outing last week with another excellent start. Lesser-known (and much older) prospects Luke Irvine and Edgar Garcia put in excellent performances as they try and keep their futures in baseball alive as 27- and 28-year-old journeymen.

AAA: Reno 6 @ New Orleans 2. Braden Shipley was electric with 6 super sharp shutout innings allowing just 2 hits without a walk and striking out 8. He was lifted after just 85 pitches and is really showing off some consistency with only one poor outing out of 9 on the season. He's only walked 7 batters in 54 innings which is perhaps the most exciting number against 42 strikeouts for a 6:1 K to walk ratio. He looks ready to step in on a moment's notice should the big club need a starter any time soon. He found himself in a serious pitcher's duel and left after 6 with the score tied 0-0. The Aces took the lead on a Todd Glaesmann sacrifice fly in the top of the 7th only to watch Matt Stites surrender 2 in the bottom half. Reno blew it open in the 9th scoring 4 runs off big-leaguer Craig Breslow. Kyle Jensen went 3 for 5 and drove in 2 while Jack Reinheimer had 2 hits including a double and drove in one.
AA: Mobile 3 Mississippi 4. Edgar Garcia was cruising with a shutout through 6 innings until a 2-out error by Ildemaro Vargas in the 7th preceded a 3-run homer that the offense couldn't quite overcome. Stewart Ijames hit his 6th homer and Kevin Cron his 5th in an ill-fated comeback attempt in the 7th and 8th innings.
A+: Visalia 2 @ Stockton 0. Luke Irvine took advantage of 2 early runs and cruised through 6 2/3 shutout innings on 4 hits and no walks while striking out 6. Luis Ramirez and Bud Jeter finished things off from there to complete the shutout adding 2 strikeouts each. Domingo Leyba drove in one of the runs and had 2 hits for the game. Dawel Lugo had 2 doubles and Chuck Taylor had 2 hits including a double. Visalia's record stands at a fairly gaudy 28-16.
A: Kane County 7 @ Wisconsin 1.Cody Reed bounced back from his lone bad outing to put up another gem plowing through 7 strong innings allowing one run on 6 hits without a walk and 8 strikeouts. The offense made life easy for Reed with a 6-run outburst in the 4th inning headlined by a Joey Armstrong home run and a Zach Nehrir 2-run single. Trevor Mitsui went 3 for 5 with an RBI and Jose Queliz hit his 2nd home run.
