AZ SnakePit has been running since 2005. I started writing about the team the season before that. The Diamondbacks had never won a series in St. Louis in the entire time I have been covering them. That streak came to an end this afternoon, as the offense mauled their way to an early lead, and Zack Greinke pitched as well as he has done in an Arizona uniform. The D-backs left out early, scoring three in the first inning, then added single tallies in the second and third inning, chasing Cardinals' starter Jaime Garcia after only 2.1 innings, having allowed ten hits. Michael Bourn had three hits, with the young trio of Brandon Drury, Nick Ahmed and Chris Owings getting two apiece.
Meanwhile, Grienke was rock solid over eight innings, with a solo home-run in the fourth inning the only damage he allowed. He held the Cardinals to five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts, and after a solid outing against the Yankees, appears to be hitting his stride, at long last. Brad Ziegler came in for some work in the ninth inning, and wasn't at his sharpest, but closed things out, after allowing a run . The Diamondbacks now get to enjoy an off-day tomorrow, before starting a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
Jay Ego will be along shortly with the guest recap, so stay tuned for that.
