It was thought Socrates Brito was going to be the main option in center field after A.J. Pollock was lost for the season. But it didn't work out that way as Chris Owings became the surprise starter and Brito was soon sent down to Reno where he struggled mightily for the first several weeks. He seems to have gotten over his demotion lately and his bat is coming alive. He's hitting .333 in his last 6 games with a couple of home runs and his left hand bat is probably getting noticed that his next opportunity might not be too far off.

AAA: Reno 5 Iowa 3. Josh Collmenter got the start and even though there were plenty of baserunners he held it together and limited the Cubs to 1 run over 4+ innings. Kyle Drabek gave up 2 more runs but the rest of the bullpen was plenty good shutting them out the rest of the way with Matt Stites getting the save after Enrique Burgos walked the bases full with 2 outs. The offense was balanced with Kyle Jensen leading the way with a solo home run and a couple of walks. Carlos Rivero filled the stat sheet with 2 hits, a double, a walk and an RBI. Socrates Brito added a pair of singles.
AA: Mobile 5 Jackson 4. Yoan Lopez started but was removed from the game after facing just three batters. I don't at this time know what happened there. Recently-signed Billy Buckner, former Diamondback and Kansas City Royals starter, came on and went 4+ innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits The offense scratched out a run in the 8th to take a 5-4 lead before Jimmie Sherfy closed it out in nervous style for his 3rd save. Evan Marzilli went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and a stolen base. Jamie Westbrook went 2 for 3 with an RBI making him 10 for his last 23.
A+: Visalia 3 @ Modesto 1. Journeyman Luke Irvine was dominating giving up one run on just one hit and 2 walks while striking out 4. The offense plated 3 runs on 10 hits and if not for being 2 for 15 with runners in scoring position could have had a few more. Tyler Baker went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles while Domingo Leyba and Dawel Lugo each had 2 hits, Leyba with a double and Lugo with a triple. Bud Jeter earned his 2nd save striking out the side to get around 2 hits.
A: Kane County 3 Peoria 4. Starter Tyler Mark surrendered 4 runs in the opening frame but settled down after that with four scoreless innings. Unfortunately that wasn't good enough as the offense was unable to overcome the early deficit. Five hits was all they could muster even though they threatened with 2 runs in the 8th.
