Diamondbacks Option OF Socrates Brito to AAA Reno, Recall RHP Tyler Wagner

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

With the Diamondbacks bullpen still reeling from the 14 inning game on Saturday, they've made another move to try to add another arm for the Giants series. With Archie Bradley set to take the mound today and his past history, the Dbacks need to have a viable long man.

Wagner pitched a solid spring, but was sent to the minors halfway through March. Wagner is 0-2 with a 5.19 ERA in 2 starts in Reno, with both of his starts coming in the most hitter friendly environment in the minors in Reno. Today would have been Wagner's day to pitch for the Aces.

With Brito being optioned to AAA, that leaves the Diamondbacks without a viable CF on the roster. David Peralta and Chris Owings can play CF in a pinch, but neither should be considered a long-term solution. For now, those two will have to hold the fort for the next 10 days before Brito is allowed to be recalled. Peralta moving to CF will give Brandon Drury the opportunity for regular ABs in RF, which have been hard to come by lately.

The third implication from this move is the Dbacks aren't very bullish on Shelby Miller making his next start on Thursday. They can slot in Rubby De La Rosa there and use Wagner as the long man in the pen. The Dbacks now have 13 pitchers and 12 position players on their roster.
