Archie Bradley couldn't get out of the first inning for Reno last night and then got tossed when Phil Nevin came out to remove him and he began jawing with the home plate umpire. Nevin was also tossed and the Aces couldn't quite recover from the 3-0 early deficit. All four affiliates lost and my boy Jamie Westbrook continues to struggle going 0-6 and is now 1 for 22 to start the season with one walk and 2 strikeouts.

AAA: Reno 2 Albuquerque 3: The Isotopes did all their damage in the 1st inning when Archie Bradley semi-imploded with 2 walks, 3 hits, a wild pitch and a hit batter allowing three runs to score. Bradley obviously had some kind of issue with the umpire because he was already destined for the showers when he got into with the umpire and was immediately tossed from the game. The bullpen jumped in and did everything they could to get the team back into it by shutting out Albuquerque the rest of the way. Seth Simmons threw 3.1 scoreless frames and Adam Loewen followed with 2 more while Scott Rice, Dominic Leone and Kaleb Fleck each added one. The offense scratched out solo runs in the 5th and 7th innings but couldn't get the equalizer. Jack Reinheimer went 2 for 5 with a double and is hitting .478 in his first 5 games.
AA: Mobile 1 @ Biloxi 2. Anthony Banda was very good delivering 5 solid innings allowing just one run on 5 hits while striking out 9. This game went extra innings when the offense could only manage one run of their own. The BayBears bullpen racked up 7 shutout innings before Wil Locante served up a walk-off homer to the leadoff batter in the bottom of the 13th. Ildemarro Vargas went 3 for 6 and Ronnie Freeman went 3 for 5 scoring the team's only run. I need to stop promoting Westbrook so much so he can get the jinx off his back.
A+: Visalia 5 @ San Jose 8. Ethan Elias got knocked around a bit giving up 6 runs in 5+ innings of work. Nick Baker gave up 2 more and that was more than the offense could overcome. Rudy Flores had 2 hits including his first home run of the year. Colin Bray had 2 hits and an RBI. It was Visalia's first loss of the season after starting out 4-0.
A: Kane County 2 Cedar Rapids 7. A combination of bad pitching and poor hitting spelled expected defeat in this one. Junior Garcia surrendered 4 runs over 3 innings and Joel Payamps followed him in giving up 3 more. The offense racked up 3 hits with Joe Munoz and Raymel Flores each doubling. Matt McPhearson stole his 4th base in 5 games. He's sporting a .375 OBP even though he's only hitting .231. If he can keep getting on base any way he can then his top shelf speed can really start to play. Stay tuned. He's only 20.
