Weeks makes his Cactus League debut, and it will also be the first time he has pulled on the jersey of any other National League team except for the Milwaukee Brewers. He played 1,170 times for them since making his debut in September 2003, just a couple of days after his 21st birthday. He was with the Seattle Mariners last year, but only in the minors, and was released by them in late June. Weeks was the second overall pick in the 2003 draft, going just behind Delmon Young. Wasn't exactly a great top of the draft that year; Weeks is the only one of the first six players chosen to have been worth more than 3.5 bWAR. Oddly, #4, Tim Stauffer, is also in our camp this spring as an NRI.
After a solid outing in his debut by Archie Bradley yesterday, the likely main rival for the fifth spot in our rotation will take the mound for the D-backs today, to be followed by one of the other (albeit more outsider) candidates. Looks like we'll also get to see Clippard make his debut as a Diamondback. Well, I guess "see" is a bit of a stretch, since there's no apparent live media coverage of this game, either on TV or radio, so we'll be reduced to staring at Gameday and trawling social media for comments from those in attendance! But, hey - that's what spring is all about, isn't it?
