Arizona Diamondbacks make seven roster moves

The herd of pitchers was thinned considerably today, with the Diamondbacks sending down Zack Godley, and letting Wesley Wright and Sam LeCure go entirely. .

  • Zack Godley RHP. to Mobile
Reassigned to Minor League Camp:
  • Kaleb Fleck RHP
  • Yoan López RHP
  • Brett Hayes C
  • Evan Marzilli OF
  • Sam LeCure RHP
  • Wesley Wright LHP

Some of these are no great surprise. The departures of Godley and Lopez appear to ink absolutely Robbie Ray into the fifth starter's spot, and while Marzilli was a potential replacement if A.J. Pollock was not fit for Opening Day, his absence from the 40-man roster weighed against him. The bigger surprises were probably the outright release of LeCure and Wright. The latter, in particular, had been a credible contender for the final spot in the Arizona bullpen, providing a second left-handed option, and up until his last outing, had been performing very well. Even now, he still only has a 2.16 spring ERA, with eight strikeouts in 8.1 innings. He mway well catch on elsewhere.

These moves mean the Diamondbacks now have 33 players left in camp, with one week left before Opening Day.
