Red Sox VP of International and Amateur Scouting Amiel Sawdaye will be the Diamondbacks Assistant General Manager

With a GM now in place, the choice for his top assistant could be coming with him from Boston.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Diamondbacks hired Mike Hazen from the Red Sox last week and while much of the attention from the media will come down to managerial candidates, the Dbacks still need to fill out their front office. With assistant GM Bryan Minniti failing to get the promotion, it is very likely he leaves the organization to go to another team. While I do think there will be some executives making the move from Boston to Phoenix, Hazen did state he wasn't going to raid the entire front office personnel. The Diamondbacks have reached out to the Red Sox Vice President of International and Amateur Scouting Amiel Sawdaye to offer him the assistant GM job. He is also considering the Red Sox GM job and possibly a prominent front office role in the Minnesota Twins organization as well.

While Sawdaye would get the GM label in either Minnesota or Boston, the structure would be the same in all three organizations. Sawdaye would be the #2 guy in the front office structure, although Arizona is the only team who doesn't give him the superficial GM title when he's not the guy with final say on baseball operations. Sawdaye is the only person linked to the position, although I wouldn't be surprised if the assistant GM is currently a part of the Red Sox front office either. The Diamondbacks could use a fresh perspective from a successful front office and that might be what the team needs to turn the ship.

UPDATE: 7:11 PM MST

Beat Red Sox writer Evan Drellich is reporting that Sawdaye is likely going to take the job in Arizona and the Dbacks would owe the Red Sox no compensation for the move since it's a promotion. Nick Piecoro further reports that Sawdaye will become the Diamondbacks Senior Vice President and Assistant GM. There may be potentially a few more hires out of the Red Sox front office that Hazen is coming from.
