OFFICIAL: #Dbacks acquire INF Jean Segura & RHP Tyler Wagner from Brewers for Aaron Hill, Chase Anderson, Isan Diaz & cash considerations.
— Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) January 30, 2016
First reported by ESPN's Keith Law then confirmed by the team, the Diamondbacks and Brewers made a five player swap today, making it never a dull moment with Dave Stewart and company.
First we say goodbye to Aaron Hill. It's unknown at this time how much of Hill's salary the Brewers will be taking on, and I figure that will color a lot of people's opinions of this trade. Also leaving is Chase Anderson, possibly freeing up the 5th rotation spot for Archie Bradley. The 19-year old Diaz put up a .360/.436/.640 line in MIssoula last season.
Now for what the Diamondbacks obtained. Segura was an All Star in 2013 with Milwaukee, but his offense has fallen off the past two seasons, putting up a .252/.285/.331 line combined 2014 and 2015. He has exclusively played Shortstop his entire career, so how he fits in with Nick Ahmed will be seen.
Wagner was a 4th round pick for the Brewers in 2012 out of Utah. He made his major league debut last season, putting up a high ERA in a small sample size. In Double-A Biloxi he went 11-5 with a 2.26 ERA. He was ranked 15th among Brewers prospects by MLB.com.
More details on this trade as they come will appear on this website. In the meantime, dispense your takes in the comments.
