Peralta Ranked Sixth on MLB Network's "Top 10 Left Fielders Right Now!"

Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder David Peralta was ranked sixth on MLB Network’s Top 10 Left Fielders Right Now! program last night. Peralta finished one spot ahead of the Miami Marlins’ Christian Yelich, and one spot behind the Kansas City Royals’ Alex Gordon.

Taking into account a number of offensive and defensive metrics, both advanced and traditional, plus projections for the upcoming season, MLB Network's Top 10 Right Now! series ranks the top players at each position heading into the 2016 season. Here's the full top 10.

  1. Michael Brantley, Cleveland Indians
  2. Starling Marte, Pittsburgh Pirates
  3. Justin Upton, Detroit Tigers
  4. Yoenis Cespedes, New York Mets
  5. Alex Gordon, Kansas City Royals
  6. David Peralta, Arizona Diamondbacks
  7. Christian Yelich, Miami Marlins
  8. Matt Holliday, St. Louis Cardinals
  9. Corey Dickerson, Tampa Bay Rays
  10. Brett Gardner, New York Yankees

What do you think about Peralta's #6 ranking? Too high? Too low? About right? I'd say, overall, it's pretty impressive, considering that less than three years ago, he was a failed pitcher, trying to re-invent himself as an outfielder with the independent ball Amarillo Sox. He's come quite a distance since then, hasn't he? Of all the underdog stories we've had in our time - Ryan Roberts living out of the Reno clubhouse, Clay Zavada quitting the game entirely - this has got to be one of the best.
