Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 9/7: Hops Drop Playoff Opener

Hillsboro began their Northwest League title defense with a sloppy game one loss 4-2.

AAA: Reno 10 El Paso 2. Archie Bradley started and was going along nicely with 5 shutout innings until tiring in the 6th when he gave up a solo home run, 2 singles and a walk. He did get the win when the offense cranked it up led by Mike Freeman who went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI. Todd Glaesmann and Bllake Lalli each added 2 hits.

AA: Mobile 4 @ Pensacola 2. Gabriel Arias was sharp earning his 6th win with 6 shutout innings on 6 hits and no walks while striking out 4. Socrates Brito led the offense with 3 hits including a triple and an RBI while also stealing his 20th base. Mark Thomas and Gabriel Guerrero added solo home runs.

A+: Visalia 6 Lake Elsinore 11. The Rawhide were battling in a close game at 5-5 entering the 8th when Myles Smith got blasted for 5 runs. Starter Ryan Doran went 5 innings allowing 3 runs and Mason McCullough gave up 2 more. Jamie Westbrook did his part on offense with a 3-hit game including his 17th home run. Breland Almadova had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Gerson Montilla hit his 10th home run in a 2-hit game.

A: Kane County 5 Peoria 6.The Cougars dropped their final game of the season in spite of late 9th inning rally that came up a run short. Jared Miller went 5 innings giving up 4 runs with 3 of them earned. Victor Reyes went 2 for 4 with his 2nd home run of the season. Dawel Lugo went 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored while Henry Castillo had 2 hits with a double. Kane County starts their playoff series against the same Peoria team on Wednesday after finishing the season 30 games over .500.

A-: Hillsboro 2 @ Salem-Keizer 4. The Hops began their Northwest League title defense with a 4-2 loss in which errors and missed opportunities ruled the day. Cody Reed started and went 5 innings giving up 4 runs but just 2 were earned. The Hops had ducks on the pond early and often but couldn't produce the big hit needed to break this one open. Luis Veras had 3 hits in the game and Nate Robertson had 2 with a double and an RBI. The Hops head home for the final 2 games of the series needing to win both to advance to the Championship round.

R: Missoula 6 @ Helena 0. Austin Byler hit his 15th home run of the year, which leads the Pioneer League as 6 pitchers combined on a 6-hit shutout. Bo Takahashi went the first 2 innings and Emilio Vargas went the next 3, earning the win. Byler drove in 3 runs overall on the home run and a single. The Osprey finish the season on Tuesday before beginning the playoffs on Wednesday.
