In a game that a lot of people thought would be a slugfest going into the night, given the offenses on the two teams, it ended up being night dominated by pitching. Despite a Rocky first (see what I did there?) where he gave up two runs, Robbie Ray ended up going six innings and only letting the Rockies get three runs on seven hits, and two walks. Not a great start, but another very serviceable start from the 23 year old lefty.
Meanwhile, Christian Bergman, who looks like a clone of Jeff Samardzija in his MLB.com picture, also pitched an effective game. He only went five innings, but also held the Dbacks to three runs, five hits, and one walk.
In the end, the starters didn't factor in to the decision. The game went to extras, finally being decided in the 11th inning. The Rockies reliever walked the bases loaded on 13 pitches, and then Phil Gosselin won it on an RBI single 4-3 Dbacks.
