It just wasn't Robbie Ray's night. After a miraculous start to his 2015 season, Ray has struggled down the stretch, including this game. He allowed all 4 runs, on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. The big blow came in the 5th inning, when Matt Kemp hammered a 1-1 fastball deep into right center field, scoring 3 runs and knocking Ray out of the ballgame. The bullpen kept things close, combining for 4 1/3rds innings, with Delgado, Hernandez and Collmenter closing things out.
The offense faced Andrew Cashner, the young hard throwing righty and did pretty well, scoring 3 runs over his 7 innings of work courtesy of a Chris Owings 2-RBI single in the 4th, and a Jarrod Saltalamacchia home run in 6th. But like Arizona, the San Diego bullpen did a fantastic job, with Benoit and Kimbrel combining for 2 IP of shutout ball and ensuring a victory. Guess that's what they are paid to do huh?
