Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 8/7: Westbrook Shines Again

Jamie Westbrook put on another offensive show as his game continues to improve. Last night he his his 12th home run, drove in 3 runs and added a double and 2 walks. Since the All Star Break he's hitting .340 with a .961 OPS, has 7 homers and 27 RBI in 38 games. And he's barley over 20 years old. He's putting up Chris Owings type numbers with better plate discipline.

AAA: Reno 6 @ Tacoma 7. The Aces were cruising to victory until Matt Stites and Enrique Burgos arrived on the scene to turn a 6-1 lead into a 7-6 loss in the 9th and 10th innings. Caleb Clay held Tacoma in check through 6.1 innings allowing one run on 10 hits and 2 walks. Danny Worth drove in 3 runs on 2 hits including a double. Brandon Drury had 2 hits with a double and Jordan Pacheco hit a solo home run.

AA: Mobile 6 @ Chattanooga 7. Braden Shipley dodged bullets for 5 innings in allowing 2 runs (one earned) on 5 hits and 5 walks. The bullpen took a few of those bullets in the chest as Jimmie Sherfy gave up 3 runs and Adam Miller 2 more. The offense rallied for 3 runs in the 9th but came up a run short. Rudy Flores drove in 2 runs on 2 hits including a double. Gabriel Guerrero had 2 doubles and Jack Reinheimer hit a 2-run homer.

A+: Visalia 5 Inland Empire 8. RJ Hively surrendered 5 runs over 5 innings though 2 were unearned. The bullpen allowed 3 more runs and the offensive couldn't catch up in spite of a big game by Jamie Westbrook. Westbrook drove in 3 with a homer and a double and walked twice. Jose Queliz went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

A: Kane County 2 @ West Michigan 7. Ethan Elias got tattooed for 7 runs before the 5th inning was over and it never got interesting beyond that. The offense had 11 hits but left 10 men on base. Victor Reyes had 4 hits with a double. Chuck Taylor had 2 hits with a triple and an RBI. Colin Bray and Cody Regis each added a couple of singles.

A-: Hillsboro 3 Boise 2. Josh Anderson hit a 2-out, 2-run homer in the 8th to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead. Brody Greer followed with a nervous 9th inning save to secure the win. Tyler Bolton was very good going 7 strong innings allowing 2 unearned runs on 7 hits and a walk while striking out 4. Trevor Mitsui added 2 doubles and an RBI.

R: Missoula 10 @ Grand Junction 4. The offense cranked it up early with all 10 runs in the first 3 innings featuring a double, a home run and 4 RBI by Austin Byler. Marcus Wilson and Luke Lowery added 2 hits each to the attack. Bryant Holtmann got roughed up for 4 runs on 7 hits in 3+ innings. Scott Schultz followed and calmed things down with 3.2 strong innings of relief allowing one hit and a walk while striking out 4.
