Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 8/29: Bray Leads KC to DH Sweep

Kane County center fielder Colin Bray was solid from the plate in both ends of a Cougar doubleheader sweep. Though to be fair the first game was just the completion of a game suspended from Friday. He went 5 for 7 with 2 doubles, a walk and 2 RBI in the 2 games. Bray is an intriguing prospect who was drafted out of junior college in 2013, had a decent season for Missoula then missed all of 2014 to injury. He''s now having a solid season for Kane County hitting .304 with a .768 OPS. That's nothing spectatcular for a 22-year-old in low A ball but he's very athletic with good size and has some of the tools necessary to take some larger steps forward in the next couple of years.

AAA: Reno 8 Memphis 2. RJ Hively was the emergency starter when Allen Webster was pulled from the start to be available for the Dbacks on Sunday. Hively was very good going 6+ innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks with 7 strikeouts. The offense did its job in making him a winner led by Todd Glaesmann's 2 doubles, Nick Evans' 2-run homer and Jamie Romak's 25th homer.

AA: Mobile 2 Montgomery 8. Brandon Sinnery was okay allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in 5+ innings. But the bullpen was very bad as Jake Barrett, Daniel Gibson and Silvino Bracho all gave up additional runs. The offense was bad with just 5 hits.

A+: Visalia 2 @ Modesto 5. Reliever Johnny Shuttlesworth made his second start of the year and wasn't too bad going 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits without a walk. It wasn't good enough however as the bullpen allowed 3 more runs and the offense managed just 2 of their own. Gerson Montilla went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

A: Game 1. Kane County 4 @ Cedar Rapids 3. In the continuation of Friday's suspended game the Cougars finished it off when Joe Munoz hit a solo home run in the top of the 9th to break a 3-3 tie. Starter Nick Baker wasn't very good giving up 3 runs in 3 innings. But the bullpen was stellar with 6 subsequent shutout innings. Jose Martinez got the win with a perfect 8th and Luis Ramirez his 9th save with a perfect 9th. Munoz was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and the big home run. Colin Bray went 2 for 4 with a double.

A: Game 2. Kane County 6 @ Cedar Rapids 2. In the 7-inning nightcap Colin Bray stayed hot going 3 for 3 with a double, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored and a stolen base. Starter Ethan Elias went 5 solid innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. Zac Curtis pitched the 9th for his 30th save. Marty Herum had 3 hits and 2 RBI while Dawel Lugo and Michael perez each went 2 for 3 with a double.

A-: Hillsboro 3 @ Eugene 0. Carlos Hernandez was rock solid with 6 shutout innings on 5 hits and a walk with 6 strikeouts. Brody Greer was also very good with a 6-out save and 5 strikeouts. The offense had just 3 hits but scored 3 runs due to 5 walks.

R: Missoula 4 @ Great Falls 11. Junior Garcia got knocked around pretty good giving up 8 runs before getting pulled in the 4th, though he did strike out 8. The offense couldn't recover from that and managed just 4 hits though they scored 4.
