Diamondbacks Minor-League Round-Up, 8/19: Mitsui's the man

If our 30th-round pick in 2014, Trevor Mitsui, is trying to make a name for himself, he's certainly succeeding, as he homered for the fifth straight game with Hillsboro. Oh, and he went deep twice tonight.

Snake Stars
3 stars: Trevor Mitsui, Hillsboro - 3-for-5, two R, two HR (9), five RBI
2 stars: Junior Garcia, Missoula - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO, W (2-0)
1 star: Luke Lowery, Missoula - 2-for-4, two R, TPL, HR (9), two RBI
0 stars: Enrique Burgos, Reno - 0.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, BS

Triple A Reno 5 @ Oklahoma City 8 (15). Jhoulys Chacin took a three-run lead into the ninth, but he and Enrique Burgos couldn't hold it there, and Matt Reynolds gave up a three-run homer with two out in the 15th, to let the Dodgers walk off. Chacin scattered nine hits with seven K's over 8.1 innings, but Burgos allowed both inherited runners and one of his own to score before recording two outs. CF Mike Freeman had three hits and a walk, while SS Brandon Drury doubled and singled. Kaleb Fleck and Seth Simmons each tossed two scoreless frames.

Double-A Mobile @ Jackonsville postponed. There will be a double-header tomorrow.

High-A Visalia 3 @ Modesto 1. 1B Daniel Palka smacked his 24th home-run to give the Rawhide the lead in the second, and they held on from there. Starter Anthony Banda went three scoreless innings on a hit and a walk with four K's, before turning to the bullpen. Tom Jameson tossed two scoreless, and Nickolas Sarianides got his 21st save with two scoreless in the ninth. 2B Jamie Westbrook had two hits, drove in a run and stole a base but was also caught; LF Fidel Pena had a hit and a walk, and CF Alex Glenn drew a pair of bases on balls.

A-ball Kane County 2 @ Cedar Rapids 4. All the runs here came in the first three innings, as Cougars' starter Ethan Elias lasted only 2.1 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks without a strikeout. The KC bullpen kept things scoreless the rest of the way, led by Nick Baker's 2.2 hitless innings of relief, but the offense were not able to claw their way back into this one. RF Victor Reyes doubled, singled and stole a base, while there were two-hit games for 2B Ildemaro Vargas and DH Henry Castillo.

A short Hillsboro 7 @ Salem Kaizer 10. Mitsui had three HR in his first 48 games for Hillsboro, but now has six over his last five. Tonight, it was a three-run homer in the first, a solo shot in the eighth and an RBI single in the ninth, to drive in five of the Hops runs, but it wasn't enough. Starter Carlos Hernandez struggled, scattering eight hits and two walks over 4.1 innings, and was charged with six runs; Kevin Simmons gave up four runs in 1.2 relief innings. RF Luis Veras went 4-for-5 with a double, and LF Grant Heyman had three hits.

Rookie Missoula 5, Orem 0. Junior Garcia, Cameron Smith and Andrew Potter combined on a six-hit shutout of the Owls. The Osprey got all the offense they would need in a two-run first, courtesy of DH Luke Lowery's ninth home-run of the year; he later tripled as well. C Francis Christy also had two hits, including his second homer. Garcia tossed five innings of two-hit ball, with two walks and three K's; he has yet to allow a run over his first ten innings since coming over in the Oliver Perez trade from Houston. Smith worked three scoreless innings of relief.
