Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 7/14: Socrates Brito Progressing

Socrates Brito had another very nice game for Mobile going 4 for 5 with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI, and a stolen base. Brito is having a solid season at the AA level and still at the developing age of 22. He's a serious candidate to be in the Dbacks outfield in the not-too-distant future. As I've said before about him, think Gerardo Parra with real speed.

AAA: Reno 3 Salt Lake 5. Jhoulys Chacin had a nice outing allowing 2 runs over 7 innings, but the offense didn't do him justic and the team eventually lost in the 11th inning. Matt Reynolds took the loss giving up 2 runs in the 11th after a clean 10th. The offense got plenty of men on base with 12 hits and 5 walks but couldn't get enough runners home. Nick Buss led the way with 2 hits, a walk and an RBI. Gerald Laird had 2 hits with a double and Danny Dorn added a couple of singles.

AA: Mobile 9 Mississippi 3. Gabriel Arias was very good with 7 shutout innings before getting popped for 3 runs in the 8th. But the game was out of reach by then so he got the much-deserved win. Socrates Brito led the offensive onslaught with 4 hits, 2 RBI and a stolen base. Garrett Webber was perfect with 3 hits and a walk in 4 PAs. Mark Thomas contributed 2 doubles and Evan Marzilli had 2 hits with a double.

A+: Visalia 2 @ Stockton 0. Anthony Banda was stellar with 6 shutout innings on just 2 hits though he did walk 4 while striking out 6. The bullpen did its job with 3 shutout innings that allowed for the late-scoring win as the offense scored single runs in the 8th and 9th innings. Steve Hathaway got the win and Nick Sarianides the save, his 20th. Jamie Westbrook led the offense with 2 doubles and an RBI while Alex Glenn had 2 hits with a double.

A: Kane County 12 Lansing 7. Nick Baker picked up his 10th win against one loss with 3 runs allowed over 5 innings. The offense exploded for 10 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings and the game was called after 7 due to rain. Marty Herum and Cody Regis each had 3 hits and scored 5 runs between them while Joe Munoz drove in 4 runs. Michael Perez had a hit, 2 walks and 2 RBI and Chuck Taylor had 2 hits, a walk and a double.

A-: Hillsboro 0 Vancouver 3. Carlos Hernandez continued his domination of the Northwest League with 6 shutout innings on one hit and 2 walks while striking out 9. But it was for naught as the offense didn't show with just 4 hits and 11 strikeouts. Kevin Simmons took the loss with an unearned run in the 7th and Breckin Williams gave up 2 more in the 8th. Joey Armstrong had 2 of the 4 hits.

R: Missoula 8 Grand Junction 0. A rare shutout in the Pioneer League with 5 of those coming from Junior Garcia on 4 hits and 2 walks, and the final 4 coming from Cameron Smith who allowed no hits, no walks and struck out 6. The long ball was in force as Austin Byler and Jason Morozowski hit 2-run blasts and Kal Simmons and Raymel Flores added solo shots.
