Reno's Jamie Romak is on a hitting tear and clubbed another home run last night giving him 5 in the last 6 games and 16 on the season. Originally a 4th round pick by Atlanta in 2003 out of high school Romak has fought his way up the minor league ladder, often playing well but never well enough to be considered a strong major league prospect. He did get his cup of coffee last year with the Dodgers where he did poorly with a handful of pinch hit opportunities. But he does have positional versatility being able to play first, second, third and the outfield, so one would think he might be useful as a bench bat. Maybe he gets a longer opportunity in the near future because he is playing the best he ever has right now, though he is 29 years old.

AAA: Reno 6 Sacramento 10. Gabriel Arias got rocked for 8 runs in 4 innings and that was too much to overcome. The offense did tally 6 runs behind Jamie Romak's 16th home run and 3 hits from Nick Evans. Blake Lalli added a 2-run homer.
AA: Mobile 9 Pensacola 4. John Omahen was so-so allowing 4 runs in 5+ innings and was let off the hook when the offense exploded for 6 runs in the 7th inning to take the game. Will Locante got the win with 3 strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Keith Hessler struck out 2 in the 8th and Jimmie Sherfy one in the 9th to close it out. Zach Borenstein drove in 3 runs with a single and a double to lead the offense. Recent callups Stewart Ijames and Kevin Medrano each added 2 hits. Tom Belza walked 3 times and singled while scoring 3 runs.
A+: Visalia 7 @ San Jose 6.The Rawhide came from behind again after blowing a 3-run lead and won 7-6. Brandon Sinnery was pitching well until he and Johnny Shuttlesworth combined to allow 4 runs in the 7th that erased a 5-2 lead. Mitch Haniger delivered the big blow with a 2-run homer in the 8th. He went 4 for 5 on the night and scored 3 runs. Daniel Palka had 3 hits including a double, his 14th homer and 2 RBI. Jamie Westbrook had 2 hits including a double and an RBI while Domingo Leyba and Kevin Cron also had 2 hits each. Joey Krehbiel pitched the 9th for his 7th save though he did walk 2.
A: Kane County 6 @ Clinton 3. The Cougars made it 9 in a row with a solid 6-3 win behind Brad Keller. Keller only went 5 innings but allowed just one run on 7 hits and a walk. Jose Martinez made a nice 2 inning appearance allowing no runs or hits and striking out 4. He may be working his back into a starting role in the not-too-distant future as he rebuilds his stamina from the long layoff. Zac Curtis pitched a perfect 9th with 2 strikeouts for his 18th save. In 30 innings Curtis has 44 strikeouts, 8 walks and 21 hits allowed. He needs a new challenge. The balanced 13-hit offensive attack included 2 doubles by Michael Perez and 3 hits by Colin Bray.
A-: Hillsboro 8 @ Everett 7. The Hops rallied for 3 runs in the 9th to tie the game at 7-7 and scored another in the 10th to win it. Tyler Bolton was fair, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) in 5 innings. Kevin Simmons allowed 3 more in the 7th and the game looked lost. Stephen Dezzi hit a leadoff homer in the 9th to start the rally and Fernery Ozuna delivered a 2-run double that capped it. Dane McFarland's double won it in the 10th. Ryan Burr got the win with a perfect 9th and 2 strikeouts. Will Landsheft got the save with 2 strikeouts of his own. Dezzi went 2 for 4 with a walk and scored 3 times in addition to the home run. Trevor Mitsui went 2 for 5 and hit a 2-run homer in the 1st.
R: Missoula 2 @ Great Falls 4. Anfernee Benitez surrendered 4 runs in 4+ innings and the offense was not up to that task. Four relievers did well to keep it close but that's the end of the good news. Isan Diaz, Marcus Wilson and Joey Armstrong each had 2 hits in the loss.
AZL: Dbacks 5 @ Dodgers 1. Starter Luis Madero was outstanding going 6 innings allowing one unearned run on 2 hits without a walk and striking out 4. Tucker Ward followed with 2 innings and 4 strikeouts and Erbert Gonzalez closed it out with a perfect 9th. Melvin Mezquita led the offense with 2 doubles and an RBI. Eudy Ramos had 2 hits, 2 RBI and scored 3 runs.
