Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 7/3: Drury Cracks 3 Doubles

New, comments

Brandon Drury is finding he likes the hitting environment in the PCL a lot better than the Southern League--big surprise! Last night he went 4 for 5 with 3 doubles to raise his AAA BA to .372 and his OPS to .961.

AAA: Reno 5 @ Albuquerque 4. The Aces battled back from a 4-1 deficit with single tallies in each of the last 4 innings. Aaron Blair started and was pitching well until a rough 5th inning saw him give up 3 runs. For the night he went 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. The bullpen followed with 3 goose eggs including the 9th by Addison Reed for his 1st AAA save where he gave up 2 hits but struck out 3. Brandon Drury brought the lumber going 4 for 5 with 3 doubles. Nick Buss had 3 hits including a double and 2 RBI.

AA: Game 1. Mobile 3 @ Jackson 2. In a continuation of Thursday's weather-delayed game the BayBears picked up a run in the 8th to eke out a 3-2 win. A.J. Schugel did all his pitching on Thursday giving up 2 runs over 5+ innings. The relief corps went the final 3.2 innings giving up just one hit as Silvino Bracho notched his 5th save. Zach Borenstein drove in all 3 runs with a 2-run homer and an RBI single.

AA: Game 2. Mobile 0 @ Jackson 1. Braden Shipley started the weather-shortened affair and was very good allowing one run on 5 hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. But the offense gave him no support with just 5 hits and no runs. Socrates Brito had 2 of the hits including a double though he was caught stealing.

A+: Visalia 5 Lake Elsinore 3. Blayne Weller had a typical Blayne Weller start, allowing 3 runs over 6.2 innings with 8 strikeouts. That was good enough as the offense cranked out 5 runs in the middle innings and the reliable Rawhide bullpen finished it off with Nick Sarianides getting his 16th save. Kevin Cron went 2 for 4 with his 17th home run and Jamie Westbrook blasted a 2-run shot, his 8th. Ryan Hutchison and Breland Almadova each added a pair of singles.

A: Kane County 3 Clinton 2. The Cougars won for the 8th straight time picking up 3 runs in the 4th and 5th innings to overcome a 2-0 deficit. The pitching delivered things from there. Ethan Elias was terrific giving up 2 runs in the 3rd on 2 hits but allowed no other hits or runs in the other 6 innings for his 8th win. The offense got 2 hits from Victor Reyes and RBI from Chuck Taylor, Cody Regis and Michael Perez. Zac Curtis picked up his 17th save.

A-: Hillsboro 5 Eugene 4. Jeferson Mejia gave up 2 runs in the first (only one earned) but then got into the 6th without allowing any more. He gave up just 4 hits but walked 5 while striking out 5. Cameron Gann pitched 2.2 innings of hitless relief with 4 strikeouts. Myles Smith got the final out for his 2nd save. The bulk of the offense came from Dane McFarland and Luis Veras who each clubbed 2-run homers. Zach Nehrir went 2 for 4 with a double.

R: Missoula 9 Great Falls 7. The Osprey trailed 7-3 heading into the 8th when they exploded for 6 runs and stole the game from Great Falls. Bo Takahashi wasn't his best giving up 5 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings. The big inning was capped off by Isan Diaz's 2-run double that broke the tie. Diaz had 2 doubles, a walk and 3 RBI for the game. Jason Morozowski had 2 hits with a double and an RBI. Dan Savas pitched the 9th for his 5th save.

AZL: Dbacks 6 @ Giants 7. The first 2 Dbacks pitcher Oliver and Joshua Smith dug the team a 7-3 hole from which they could not recover, though they came close. The offense was led by Ismael Pena who had 2 hits and 3 RBI.
