In a matchup between aces, Patrick Corbin toppled Felix Hernandez behind a very aggressive approach at the plate from the offense. The Dbacks jumped on King Felix early in counts and made him pay for not adjusting early enough, as they scored 4 in the first behind a Paul Goldschmidt 2-run single and a Welington Castillo 2-run homer. Beef Welington wouldn't stop there however, as he would homer again in the 4th. David Peralta added a sky-high triple that scored two more runs and basically ended Felix's day. He gave up 12 hits, 7 runs and struck out 7 in his 6 2/3 innings. Great job by the offense.
Facing King Felix was Patrick Corbin, who was excellent through his innings of work. He was consistently in the mid-90's with his fastball and had his usual superb slider working as well. With a 7-1 lead entering the 7th, Chip Hale pulled him. He finished the day with 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R and 6 K's. Addison Reed came on in relief fresh from his recent promotion and was actually pretty solid in his 2 innings despite giving up a run. Sure he allowed some hits, but he had a live fastball and was mixing in his splitter well, keeping opposing hitters off-balance. Josh Collmenter then came on for an easy 9th inning, allowing a 1-out double to Ackley before stranding him at third and finishing off the game.
