Jose Fernandez was solid at both the plate and the mound through 7 innings, giving up 3 runs, striking out 11 and grabbing a double of his own to lead the Marlins.
Robbie Ray started for the D-backs and was not sharp, allowing 5 runs in 4 2/3 innings while walking 3. He started well but unraveled in the 2nd, allowing 3 doubles and 3 runs to put the home team in a hole. The bullpen was solid in relief of Ray, as Stites, Leone, Collmenter and Hernandez all combined for 4 innings of 2-hit ball.
Things got scary in the 6th, as David Peralta was hit in the back of the helmet by a Jose Fernandez 97-mph fastball. He went down in a heap and lay motionless for a few seconds before being treated by the training staff and walking off on his own power. Stay tuned to Az Snake Pit for more information on his status.
