Zack Godley to Make Debut, Start Thursday

New, comments

Diamondbacks CBO, Tony La Russa announced the move in a radio interview this morning.

Tony La Russa on the Promotion

"He's got a future as a starter or a reliever."

"This is an opportunity, that if somebody gets hurt or if there's a start here or there, that you can try to compete now and also get a read on where you are for the future."

With Chase Anderson heading to the DL, there were plenty of questions being asked as to who would make his start on Thursday evening. Now we know, it will be Zack Godley. All things considered. This particular move is something of a surprise solution. Godley performed very well in Visalia to open the season, earning a promotion to Mobile. In three games in Mobile, Godley has had his struggles. In three starts, Godley has only managed 14.0 IP and posted a 5.14 ERA. He has posted a 1.357 WHIP as his walks have increased and his strikeouts have decreased.

This writer wonders if this is merely a spot start, or if Godley will get a few outings to show off what he has to the front office. Given La Russa's comments that Godley has a pretty definite future with the club, I am expecting the latter. There is no word yet on the corresponding roster move.
