Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 7/20: Romak Leads Reno Comeback

New, comments

Reno's Jamie Romak was a AAA All-Star and he played like one in Reno's big comeback win. All he did was hit a 3-run homer in the 8th and a 2-run single in the 9th to help the Aces overcome a 5-0 deficit and win 6-5. Romak is a nice insurance policy to have done in AAA should the Dbacks suffer an extended injury at any of their corner positions. Let's hope they don't need him.

1 Star: Luke Lowery, Missoula 2 for 2, 2 BB, 3 R, 1 HR (7), 3 RBI
0 Stars: Will Lowman, Missoula 2/3 IP, 0 H, 4 BB, 0 K, 3 ER

AAA: Reno 6 Albuquerque 5. The Aces dug themselves a 5-0 hole and the game looked lost heading into the 8th until Jamie Romak came to the rescue. He delivered a 3-run homer in the 8th followed by a 2-run single in the 9th that tied the game and set up Mike Freeman's walk-off RBI single to win the game. Romak went 3 for 5 and drove in 5 runs. Edgar Garcia started and allowed all 5 runs in the 4th and 5th in advance of the bullpen keeping things right there with 4 scoreless frames. Kaleb Fleck earned the win. Nick Buss, Nick Evans and Mike Freeman each contributed 2 hits.

AA: Mobile 4 @ Biloxi 0. Blayne Weller tossed 5+ scoreless innings on 2 hits and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts to put the team in position to win, and win they did as the bullpen nailed things down over the final 4 innings. Daniel Gibson, Dominic Leone and Keith Hessler each had scoreless frames. Gabriel Guerrero and Rudy Flores each hit solo home runs while Jack Reinheimer had 3 hits including a double.

A+: Visalia 3 @ Rancho Cucamonga 0. Brandon Sinnery spun a complete game shutout on 5 hits and no walks to give the Rawhide another win. The offense only had 4 hits by they created 3 runs in route including a solo home run by Gerson Montilla.

A: Kane County 2 Wisconsin 3. Josh Taylor was very good going 7 innings and allowing just one run on 8 hits and a walk. Reliever Myles Smith gave up a run each in the 8th and 9th innings that made any thoughts of a comeback more difficult. They did score 2 in the bottom of the 9th on 2-out RBI singles by Chuck Taylor and Ildemaro Vargas but the rally ended there. Marty Herum and Henry Castillo each had 2 hits in the game.

A-: Hillsboro 4 Everett 3. The Hops tied the game at 3-3 in the 7th with a pair of runs and then took it all the way to the 12th before Fernery Ozuna won it with a leadoff home run. Tyler Bolton was solid allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and no walks over 7 innings. Cameron Gann was even better with 4 shutout innings of relief with 5 strikeouts. Will Landsheft got the win with a perfect 12th. Ozuna had a big game going 3 for 6 with a double, the walk-off homer and 2 RBI. Josh Anderson added a pair of hits.

R: Missoula 10 @ Ogden 6. The Osprey got a couple of 3-run homers from Luke Lowery and Austin Byler and the pitching was good enough to get the win. Anfernee Benitez was very good with 5+ innings allowing an unearned run and striking out 11. The bullpen wasn't so good but not bad enough to ruin a 10-1 lead. Lowery was 2 for 2 with 2 walks and the home run. Byler was 3 for 4 with a double and the home run. Isan Diaz went 2 for 4 and is hitting .376.
