Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 7/17: Cody Reed Needs a Promotion

New, comments

Lefty Cody Reed was just about unhittable last night with 7 dominant innings allowing just one hit with no walks and 7 strikeouts, It has to be about time to move him up to Kane County and see how he does at the next level. I wonder if the Dbacks had a choice of moving Reed or Touki Toussaint in the Atlanta deal.

AAA: Reno 5 @ Salt Lake 6. Gabriel Arias got roughed up for 5 runs in the 3rd inning and the offense couldn't quite deal with that. The bullpen only allowed one run the rest of the way and Danny Dorn's 2-run homer in the 8th made it closer but they came up a run short. Dorn had hits and 3 RBI and Brandon Drury went 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

AA: Mobile 3 Jackson 0. A.J. Schugel was solid throwing 6 shutout innings on 6 hits and 2 walks followed by 3 shutout innings from the bullpen. Silvino Bracho produced a 4-out save with 2 strikeouts. Rudy Flores hit a 2-run homer in the 6th that was the major blow on offense. Jack Reinheimer added a pair of singles.

A+: Visalia 1 @ Lake Elsinore 3. RJ Hively had a pretty nice start going but surrendered a couple of runs in the 6th that dug a small hole the offense couldn't climb out of. He finished the 6th and ended with 3 runs allowed on 4 hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts. The offense had an off day with 5 hits, 2 by Jamie Westbrook and 2 by Gerson Montilla..

A-: Hillsboro 2 @ Eugene 0. Cody Reed put on a show with 7 stellar shutout innings giving up just one hit while walking none and striking out 7. 3rd round pick Taylor Carke pitched the final 2 frames to earn the save giving up 2 hits and striking out 2. The offense wasn't too stellar with 7 hits but they scored one in the first and another in the 8th on 7 scattered hits. Trevor Mitsui had 2 of the hits.

The pitching staff walked 10 on the night. Austin Byler was the lone bright spot going 2 for 4 with a double and a walk.
