Inciarte, 24, hit .320 (8-for-25) with a double, triple, home run and 4 runs scored in 7 rehab games between Double-A Mobile and Rookie AZL D-backs. In 63 games with the D-backs this season, he is batting .287 (72-for-251) with 11 doubles, 2 home runs, 21 RBI 9 stolen bases and 39 runs scored. Inciarte suffered the injury in the first inning on June 12 @ Angels.
Saltalamacchia, 30, was batting .318 (7-for-22) with 3 doubles, a RBI and 4 walks in his last 8 games. He hit .167 (15-for-90) with 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 5 RBI in 29 games with the Marlins and D-backs this season. Saltalamacchia was signed by the D-backs as a Minor League free agent on May 7, and promoted to Arizona on May 29.
It's an interesting move, not least because there was no word of Saltalamacchia being bothered by any neck problem prior to this announcement. It will probably mean more playing time for Rule 5 pick, Oscar Hernandez - not that it could mean significantly less, considering his sole sighting since being added to the 25-man roster on July 4, was one fleeting appearance as a pinch-runner. It'll also be interesting to see how playing-time in the outfield is carved up among Inciarte, A.J. Pollock, David Peralta and Yasmany Tomas,
