SnakePit Fantasy Baseball, Week 9

It had to happen eventually. After eight weeks undefeated to start the season - I think it's a SnakePit record - Trail-Hitters finally tasted defeat.

Week 9 Results

AZ SnakePit 7, CGS 3
A sub-two ERA led Snake to all but Saves in pitching, where they lost to three by Ziegler. Snake got a W + 11 K from Mertinez, plus 13 strikeouts from Jimenez. Bumgarner got a Win and 11 K for CGS, and Trout went deep four times, but six RBI and a pair of SB from Pollock let AZ cruise in.

MyWieterGetzLongoria 6, Mizzoula Osprey 3
Wieter held on to second, thanks mostly to Pitcher of the Week Archer, who notched two Wins and 26 strikeouts. Rodon and Vogelsong notching double-digit K's too. Tulowitzki (Missoula) was the only player here with two HR; McCutchen drove in seven and score five for Longoria.

Angry Saguaro 1, Alabama Slammers 9
The week's biggest blowout saw K the only category taken by Angry, for whom Simon delivered a Win and 13 whiffs. Kendricks got a W + 10 K for Alabama, who swept hitting behind Pujols' four HR and six RBI, with Burns driving in five. Gregerson (Slammers) had this one's only two Sv.

Smell the Glove 7, Dirk Ziegler 2
Smell swept pitching, a sub-one WHIP helped by Kershaw (two Wins + 18 strikeouts) and Rosenthal (four Sv). Uehara goit three Saves for Dirk, and Norris was the sole hitter with a multi-homer week. But it wasn't enough, the Gloves coming off winners, Phillips scoring five + stealing two.

Socrates Burritos 6, Trail-Hitters 3
The Burritos took a bite out of the Hitters, becoming the first to defeat the league-leaders, after eight had failed. Teixeira, Jones and Freeman each had three HR for Socrates, DeGrom and Cole each winning two. Hammel got a W + 11 K  for Trail, whose offense was led by Stanton's three HR.

Waffles 5, Rougned Hodor 5
Waffles hit a collective .338 this week, but Hodor took most of the counting categories, behind Hitter of the Week Franco (four HR, eight RBI, .400). They also got five Saves from Melancon, Wilson fanning 15, but Waffles had a W + 13 K from Cueto, and three Sv by Ramos, to end things even.

What the Hellickson? 7, Yasmany as Possible 2
Hellickson racked up an impressive eighty strikeouts, led by a W and 11 K from McCullers, though Sale responded for Yasmany with a W + 13 strikeouts. Pederson had four HR and drove in nine runs for What?, allow them to finish comfortable winners, though Dozier went deep twice for possible.

There's no obvious ESPN Televised Game of the Week this round, but we'll go with MyWieterGetzLongoria vs. CGS, as the only contest pitting two teams in the top half against each other. Josh Donaldson's surprising season has been a big help for Wieter, while Chris Archer and Sonny Gray pack a potent 1-2 punch on the mound. CGS have got some powerful offense in the shape of Prince Fielder and the second-best CF in baseball, Mike Trout, with Madison Bumgarner leading their pitching staff.
