Hey, look: I remembered to adjust for Mountain time today... I turned the game off last night at the rain delay, at which point the D-backs were 3-1 up. You can imagine my total lack of surprise when I checked Twitter one Netflix movie later, and discovered we were now four runs behind. I don't think I've seen such a bizarrely predictable run of results in... forever. Really: ten chances in a row to reach .500, and ten consecutive defeats? If I may be so bold as to correct James's headline on Snake Bytes this morning, I think it's more likely sympathy from Sisyphus. I wouldn't be surprised if he was now starting a petition on Change.org, protesting our cruel and unusual punishment by the baseball gods.
The only comparable spell I can recall is a few seasons back, and a spell during which it seemed the mantra every night was, "At least the Dodgers lost too." I dunno quite how to check whether my memory is being accurate, or if that streak reached as long as this one. Still, it does mean we are guaranteed a win today, since we always win when we are two games under .500, don't we? Well, not quite, but since June 5, we are 5-1 in such contests. so odds in favor. We'll have to see what mother nature has to say on the topic because - and, stop me if you've heard this one before too - the weather in Coors Field is looking threatening again, and the D-backs already had their batting practice canceled.
