Triple-A Reno 7, Sacramento 3. Seems that Gosewisch was not the only catcher apparently energized by the signing of Jarrod Saltalamacchia, as C Peter O'Brien responded by doubling, singling and even stealing his first career base tonight. 1B Nick Evans picked up four hits, while 3B Jamie Romak drove in four for the Aces, and also stole a base. Starter Justin Marks scattered seven hits over seven innings, but walked none, struck out five and picked off a batter, as he held the River Cats to one run, improving his record to 3-3, and lowering his ERA to 6.21. LF Garrett Weber had a pair of hits.
Double-A Mobile 11, Jacksonville 4. A seven-run sixth inning for the BayBears ended this one as a meaningful contest, as they batted around., with a grand-slam for 3B Gerson Montilla the highlight there, his fourth homer. However, the night belonged to 1B Rudy Flores, who went deep twice and also singled, both driving in and scoring three; he also has four home-runs. RF Socrates Brito had three hits as well, driving in a pair and stealing a base. Starter Aaron Blair didn't need all that run support, allowing two runs to the Suns over seven innings, on nine hits and a walk, with a trio of strikeouts.
High-A Visalia 4 @ Rancho Cucamonga 5 (12).. Y*s**l P**g started at DH for the Quakes on a rehab assignment, and went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. HAHAHA PUIG! U SUCK! Er, sorry about that.... The Rawhide took a 2-0 lead in the second, on RBI by 3B George Roberts and 2B Jamie Westbrook, but the Quakes hit back to score three off Blayne Weller in his five innings, on five hits and three walks, with seven strikeouts. Visalia tied it up in the sixth and both sides had chances before the Rawhide scored in the 12th. But Johnny Shuttleworth couldn't hold the lead in his third inning, and the Quakes scored twice. 1B Daniel Palka had two hits and three walks.
A-ball Kane County 1 @ Clinton 4. The Cougars held the LumberKings to only four hits, but seven walks proved their undoing, Starter Ethan Elias walked five in five innings, being charged with three runs (two earned) on three hits with three strikeouts. Kane County managed seven hits, with two apiece by 2B Cody Regis, RF Victor Reyes and C Stryker Trahan, though only one was for extra-bases, a double by Trahan. He now has a modest six-game hitting streak in which time he has raised his BA 62 points to .226. However, he did also commit his third error of the season on a throw.
