Josh Collmenter wasn't at his best, with a lot of full counts, long at-bats and hard-hit balls. But, the bottom line is, he dueled the Cubs ace, Jon Lester, to a tie, even if Collmenter only lasted five innings tonight. He allowed six hits and a walk, with five strikeouts, but managed to leave with a 2-2 tie. Arizona scored in the first, when Paul Goldschmidt followed an A.J. Pollock single with an RBI single, and after falling behind 2-1, tied things up in the fifth with Nick Ahmed's first home-run of the season. I'll repeat that. Nick Ahmed. Home-run.
Neither side threatened in regulation. We got good work from Daniel Hudson and Enrique Burgos. However, the tenth inning saw Addison Reed retire one of five faced, the Cubs scoring two. Down to our last out, Pollock doubled, and down to our last strike, Goldie was heroic on Superhero Night, delivering a game tying homer. After solid relief from Andrew Chafin, we loaded the bases with one out in the 12th, but Yasmany Tomas and Jordan Pacheco struck out.
Things got dicey in the top of the 13th when Randall Delgado loaded the bases with 2 out. He even fell into a 3-ball count, but he managed to wiggle out of it. That brought up Owings, Gosewisch, and Ahmed for the bottom of the 13th. A double by Gosewisch brought up Ahmed with one out. Ahmed walked everyone off with a line drive single.
The Diamondbacks have now won five in a row and are once again in 3rd place in the NL West.
